I have developed various ways of spreading paint and almost never touch a brush. My technique creates chance forms that I do not totally control. They have, in part, a life of their own, which creates for me both mystery and depth. My use of acrylics reflects the water colours I first used as a youth. In those days I painted from a canoe on Ice Chest Lake in the Porcupine region. Today I try to recapture these moments; when the pickerel glided beneath me in dark waters penetrated by rays of light, when earth's odours rose from floating spruce bogs, and the primal cries of the loon guarding its young, pierced the air.
